NEW PROBLEMS, PROVEN SOLUTIONS
Why I built this maintenance program
by Elijah Keever
The last few years have brought some remarkable changes to the world around us and the relationship we have with our cars has been affected right along with it. In America today, the average age of automobiles on the road is at its highest ever at 12.6 years. That’s up from 11.8 just five years ago. This isn’t surprising considering replacement cost has gone from $35,500 to $48,759 in those same five years. Repair costs have risen likewise and tighter emission standards have driven reliability downward. That means there are more big, expensive repairs happening today than ever before on automobiles. There are more complicated systems that break but the average person can’t afford to replace the car. We have been seeing this more and more frequently. It’s no fun telling someone they need a major repair on the vehicle they count on every day that they can’t afford. We help guide them through the process by offering repair options, financing, and loaner cars, but none of these are as good as avoiding the breakdown in the first place. The Peace of Mind Maintenance Program is our answer to this problem. It’s the way I’ve been maintaining my own vehicles for years and I’ve used it successfully for many of my customers as well. These last few years have motivated me to do a better job of presenting a detailed and understandable maintenance program to everyone who counts on me and my team to help them keep their vehicles going. Vehicle maintenance can be a touchy subject with some people because there has been no shortage of controversy over what is proper and necessary. Unfortunately, many who get caught up in the debate opt for no or very minimal maintenance. That leads to expensive problems for someone. Maybe they pay or maybe they pass it along to the next guy. Either way, the wisdom behind an old adage is still true: “Oil is cheaper than engines.” …or transmissions, or differentials, or fuel injectors. You get the point.
